Livestock
Livestock production in Northern New York covers all manner of production
animals: beef, chickens, sheep, goats, horses and ponies, hogs and pigs. A
category of “other” livestock includes more than 8,000 animals,
including turkeys, pheasants, deer, llamas, and alpacas.
The Northern New York Agricultural Development Program (NNYADP) has focused
largely on the larger livestock with such projects as an evaluation of
grass-fed Holstein beef production and the development of a livestock
marketing toolkit for beef, pork and poultry producers.
